About Abilities:

The story follows Shelby, a 12-year-old who has recently been adopted and is transitioning from a private social-emotional school to a public middle school. In her new Skills class, she befriends Daniella, Ethan, and Austin—each navigating life with unique disabilities. Together, they confront challenges such as bullying, and with Shelby’s encouragement, they enter the school’s Academic Competition, proving that their differences are their strengths. Michelle is both the author and illustrator of this graphic novel.

Michelle welcomes the opportunity to discuss how Abilities can help students of all ages feel seen and empowered.
