Caricaturist & Children's Book Illustrator
Leona Herzig Hosack studied visual design/ illustration at UMass at Dartmouth, and Art Education in Maine at UNE, Biddeford, USM, Gorham and Heartwood School of Art in Kennebunk, Maine. Leona has illustrated numerous children’s books, and early reader books, and written and illustrated a picture book of her own as well as a book for older readers.
Leona started doing hand cut silhouettes at festivals, historic houses, weddings and special events in 2010. In 2010 she also opened her Etsy Shop (Portraits by Lee), where she offers custom silhouettes, caricatures and realistic pencil portraits as well as some of her designs on clothing, mugs and other items to order.
She has created caricatures at family festivals, special events, weddings and parties throughout Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts, since 2012, including project graduation events, weddings, splash parks, excursion tours, and corporate parties. Her clientele includes Harvard Woman’s Leadership Conference, and Dartmouth College. She is available to do Caricatures or Silhouettes in person as well as book signings and presentations of her book illustrations.
One of her most recent collaboration is with Bill Pagum who recently wrote and self-published a series of picture books about a Yorkshire Terrier named Mr. Muffins. The books are entitled The Adventures of Mr. Muffins, Happy Birthday Mr. Muffins, and The Holidays With Mr. Muffins. The stories are based on his own Yorkie also named Mr. Muffins. Leona did the illustrations for all three books.
